“The Woman Who Outshone the Sun” / Children’s performance for ages 4-10.
A beautiful and mysterious woman with magical powers is exiled from a mountain village and she takes its water source, a river, away in punishment. Through their suffering for what they have lost, the villagers learn important lessons of tolerance, forgiveness and the frailty of the ecosystem. Performed as a bilingual story (Spanish & English), and based on a poem by Alejandro Cruz Martinez.

Brother Blue and his butterflies are on display in Porter Square! Come visit the parade pieces used to open Cambridge River Festival 2010 in the first annual tribute to beloved storyteller Brother Blue. Now installed in Cambridge at the Porter Square Mall, in the window next to the Shaw’s entrance.

Instructor: Eric Bornstein / MLA Harvard 2000 Fine Arts
Learn to create your mask using everyday materials! Course includes techniques of "free-building", allowing your face/helmet mask to be any size or shape. Course will guide you through designing and constructing your own mask using creative problem solving and a variety of simple materials.
New classes are starting all the time, private lessons are also available.

Art of the Mask / AOTM 001
Introduction to Italian, Balinese, and African styles of maskmaking. You will design and create your own durable, ready-to-wear mask.
Course covers face casting, clay and paper mache techniques, painting and finishing techniques.
Class duration: 8 weeks / 2-hour classes

Art of the Mask / AOTM 002
Learn to create your mask using everyday materials!
Course includes techniques of "free-building", allowing your face/helmet mask to be any size or shape. Course will guide you through designing and constructing your own mask using Creative Problem Solving and a variety of simple materials.
Class duration: 8 weeks / 2-hour classes

Art of the Mask / AOTM 003
Learn to build LARGE SCALE helmet masks suitable for outdoor festivals, parades, and processions, such as Venetian Carvevale and Basel Fasnacht - with the option to wear them at our First Night® appearances.  Syllabyus and materials list sent to registered students. For those who have taken AMTM 001 and AOTM 002 or have permission of the instructor.
Class duration: 8 weeks / 2-hour classes

Art of the Mask / AOTM 004
Design and create durable, finely crafted paper mache masks suitable for high level performances or display.  Face and small helmet masks made from negative mold.  For those who have taken AMTM 002 and AOTM 003 or have permission of the instructor.
